Had a linguistics professor explain this to me. You learn your accent when you learn the language. Explains why Indians who learn English outside of India do not have that "lilting" accent.
The ones in India, however, learned the language from and Indian, who had learned it from an Indian. If you trace it back, when England first colonized India they brought the Irish to do all the work. The Irish taught Indians English with their lilting brogue. And as they taught English, they taught it with the accent.

Their work ethic is unparalleled from a culture standpoint, but major companies will still choose one over a white guy with similar results and qualifications due to "diversity," especially if they are female.
AT&T LOVES doing this. They'll take a low performing minority and promote her, and then have all the high performing guys that didn't get the job work for her while having the low performers work for the white male peer of hers. This is at every level of the company up through vice president.
