So true.

I'm wondering, though, why people who are so gungho here about parents' dominion over their children suddenly change their tunes when Muslim practices are involved. Well, strike that... I'm not really wondering.

Do you not see a difference between wanting to home school your kids or not pump them fulll of Ritalin vs mutilating them?

Try to be serious.

I certainly do, and that's why I don't want routine circumcision of infant boys, either.

Laws protecting children from forced physical mutilation are unconstitutional, but removing crosses honoring the war dead totally makes sense.

Regardless of how bad this is, it should be a state issue. That’s what cap C conservatives believe, right?

Thats dumb.
It wouldn't be a states rights issue any more than owning a slave or child abuse would be.

It’s all about public perception and as was noted above what was actually done. Like it or not circumcision is an accepted practice.

If this was a religiously motivated hack job that damaged this girl then I have no problem saying one is bad and the other isn’t. I’m not encumbered by feeling like we have to draw moral equivalencies with everything.

Binding feet used to be a practice too but we don’t do it anymore because Asian girls kept falling over. Some traditions just shouldn’t be allowed to continue.

Likewise, anyone generically labeling clitoridotomy as FGM is a drooling moron.

Whats the age of consent on that for non medical needs?

I disagree. What about this make it a federal crime and where is this protected in the Constitution?

Not condoning this at all but I don’t see this as being a federal issue.

So in your sexist mind a foreskin is like a clitoris.
Why do you hate women so much? Don't they deserve pleasurable sensations??

Circumcision is genital mutilation by EVERY definition.

I’m asuming those drawing an equivalency to this and circumcision aren’t pro-choice.

Because if you were that would be

What kind of nonsensical point are you trying to make? All genital mutilation should be illegal.

If we are talking true FGM, there is no "tune change". No more so than society would allow elective pediatric penile amputation.

If however we're discussing apples-to-apples circumcision, you raise a very valid point.

Well, you can't read nor think, so my post obviously wasn't meant for you. Which kind of makes THIS one superfluous, too.

Because they grew up in a culture where religious genital mutilation is the norm

That seems like a weak indicator, considering the life changing effects of the one verses the non life affecting consequences of a man losing a foreskin. Don't you agree? Ask your wife or girlfriend what they think about it.
