quote:You need to understand that the $10/month is a tax levied by one private entity on another. Your ISP charging you $10 extra to access a particular site or service is BLATANTLY anti-competitive. That is dictating the price of another company's product/service.
I still dont understand how paying 10 more a mnth would bother anyone
Netflix is $10/month, ISP's competing service is $10/month. But wait! Your ISP charges you a $10 fee to use Netflix, so Netflix costs YOU $20/month. Of course you can go with your ISP's service for only $10 and no extra fees.
Do you get it?

It wouldn’t be just Netflix it would be all kinds of services and websites
What does matter is data caps with overage fees have the exact same effect as the blatant "Netflix tax" fees when it comes to streaming video services. Who would sign up for Netflix (or SlingTV, or DirecTV Now, or whatever) if moderate usage results in overage fees every month, when your ISP offers a competing service that is exempt from data metering?

Thankfully its like the same 4-5 people in every thread that show up to make an arse out of their ignorance and shilling.
It says something about an issue that even a majority of the most ardent fall-in-line tribalists around here recognize this administration's nonsense for what it is on this issue.
Of course, and it speaks to the larger issue in our country right now, most of them care for about two minutes until the next shiny culture wars object is held up in front of them that rallies the troops and circles the wagons for that flavor of the day outrage or circle jerk.

No, it says something that you filter this issue through who's in the whitehouse or what party is in power.

You can stop with the Freaudian projection pal.
My stance on Net Neutrality is the same today as it was 3 years ago. My recognition of the risks of natural monopolies being extended carte-blanche legal cover to manipulate the market to gouge the consumer and extort dependent businesses goes back much further.
You keep at the shilling though. I know you have your hands full with minute to minute shite posts in three threads. Cycling back to the same argument only to get them exposed and starting back over.

But the larger problem of natural monopolies is that left unchecked, they have little incentive to invest in new and upgraded infrastructure with any haste.
The incentive, inherent in any free market, is that new entrants will provide competition on both prices and quality through innovation. Government interference in this model will only hinder the ability for this type of market disruption to occur.
