They could hide Biden much easier (given the circumstances then) and he had enough sort of innocuous history that they could reasonably sell him as a “moderate.” That’s what I guess you are missing, among many other things.

You pick.
Both are true in some regard but the biggest reason is because that 15-20% of voters in the middle are comparing their lives in the four years under Trump to the four under Biden/Harris and it becomes a pretty easy choice.
Plus, Trump’s campaign is hammering issues that matter to the average American with Harris’ is clearly avoiding those issues like the plague and doubling down on rhetoric. Problem is rhetoric isn’t all that effective to people outside of the echo chamber.

The fact there is any turnout is because of TDS.
There are some Dems and many independents who don’t have TDS and they aren’t turning out.
