Look around for a new supplier who isn't full of excuses as to why they can't deliver.
That is how it works in the purchasing industry.
That is way too oversimplified. It isn't that easy when you have contracts involved. We're in a global economy now with companies operating on multiple continents. You can't use 100 year old thinking here... All it takes is one country that is willing to be cheaper than the US and they will get the global business instead of us.

We have alternatives, but not instant alternatives. And sadly, most Americans have been trained to get instant gratification.
Do you think it’s wise to have 90% of our antibiotics coming from China?
No it isn't... However, it will take time and money invested to create the alternative. Mid terms are in 18 months. This will hurt Republicans because the general population cares about their pocket book today over 5 years down the road.

Again, we can play politics and pretend everything is ok when it isn’t, but that’s still playing Russian Roulette and someone will be left holding the bag. I’d prefer a controlled burn over an abrupt free fall.

I hope you're right. Democrats don't have the sack to actually pull the trigger like Trump. .

It’s not just Dems, it’s politicians from both sides that were eager to keep kicking the can down the road as long as they could make their millions before the collapse.

We are by far the largest consumers on the planet. Who else is China going to sell their crap too? What does the EU provide that we must have? Taiwan, Korea and Japan have stuff we need but the reverse is true also.
