Did I say something about skin color?

Can you explain this point further?
There is an inability amongst some of the posters on this board to differentiate between organic, genuine frustration and opportunistic people or bad organization looking to fan the flames for selfish purposes. I'm trying not to overgeneralize here - many threads have the generalization that ALL protests are misguided because ...(floyd was a criminal, blake had a knife, etc, etc). A number of these protesters (not rioters, not blm) aren't necessarily protesting the event itself but a lifetime of events; regarding police brutality - I have made it clear (or think I have) that I do not think that is racially motivated (I think it's experienced more on a social-economic scale than anything).

Part of me agrees, but then I really do think that so much of this is just fabricated and people are caught up in emotions
The division may have began as fabricated, but there is no doubt it has spilled over into real life. There is literal division in families over politics right now.
To answer your question from another post - I define racism as discriminating against or judging a person's character solely based on race.

A year ago, I would have argued you to the death on that statement. I believe you are right, though.

Oh, and post less.
Anyone who has spent any amount of time in the rural south knows that racial slurs and the denigration of non-white ethnicities in private is commonplace. I've seen an unfortunate amount of it first hand. There is one underlying theme too.. they're all vocal supporters of DJT (and anyone with an R next to their name if I'm being honest).
I can't speak for other parts of the country but in Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee.. it is a pervasive part of southern culture.
I'm sure there are plenty of racist democrats out there too... So don't take it personally!

Racism is real as most black people are racists.
Posted on 9/11/20 at 12:04 pm to MurraytheDivot
And there are a shitload of racist blacks also

quote:Same here. 52 years old, grew up in south LA. Had many black classmates and teammates in sports. Got into a few fights with trashy black dudes in grade school, but that’s it.
I'm perfectly happy to state that I have no idea what it's like to be a black person. As a 50 year old white guy who's lived most of his life south of I-10 in Louisiana, however, I'm pretty sure I've got a handle on what's it's been like being around white people since 1970.
So..."speaking as a straight white 50 year old male" I have never, not once, been in a situation where I heard a white person directly use a racial slur at a black person to their face. Not as a kid and being around older folks who DID grow up and live through Jim Crow, not around my peers and not as an adult. This seems to fly in the face of the rampant claims of every black person seemingly having whitey running around screaming racial slurs at them nonstop. I'm simply telling you "my truth."
Have I been around people who used racial slurs behind closed doors? 100%. Again, I'm of the generation whose parents were born in the 30, and 40's. Their parents back in the 10's. OF COURSE they held bigoted views! Didn't make them correct and no one is saying they were. All that did was force me to look at my own friends and classmates growing up in the 70's and 80's, some of whom were black, and realize how wrong they had been and understand that it was mostly due to the fact that they simply grew up at a time when they had no real contact with anyone other than white people. That wasn't my reality.
So I'm not sure where all this racism has been taking place. Surely as a 50 year old white guy living n the deep south I should have seen a ton of it. I never have. So either I'm simply deaf and blind and white folks have been running around the past 50 years all around me being all kids of racist and I wasn't able to see it, or MAYBE all of this is blown way out of proportion and what you're seeing now is a moral panic which is ginning up resentment and anger where there essentially was none.
I know not one single person in the KKK, and I know probably thousands of white people in the Deep South.
Systemic racism is a myth.

I wouldn't know about it. I only have a few black friends who I rarely see in real life. I almost exclusively talk to them over discord while playing video games.
One of my best friends is the classic large anime-loving hacker black man.. he loves the chans for some reason.. but he is a strange dude
