Funny how you prefer to assassinate his character instead of dealing with the issue at hand. Total Marxist tactic, straight up.

Not at all - I appreciate him speaking out against mandatory vaxing. My post was in response to a poster calling him a “great man”.

I always considered Clapton an overrated guitarist. I've never heard anything from him that puts him in the "greatest of all time" conversation like so many people do.

You need to go back and listen to the Yardbirds, and then Cream. He also put out some good music in Derek and the Dominoes. I've never been a huge fan of Jimmy Hendrix, but when you consider that most of the greatest guitar players that ever lived consider Hendrix a guitar god, you have to know that there are things you just aren't picking up on. Same with Clapton.

But even then, as much as I love some of his Cream songs (which Clapton was not the main songwriter for), his best-known solo production is Layla and a remake of I Shot the Sheriff. Come on, that's pretty "meh" for the fantastic musical era he was in.

He is the only Artist to be elected to the RRHOF 3 times. Makes you think everyone else must suck then.

Those are some of my favorites as well.

Going WAY back, Clapton has played with so many great musicians and bands. It's hard for me to say which band was his best.

But his music with Stevie Winwood and Blind Faith is hard to beat. "Little Wing" also comes to mind, written by and also performed by Hendrix. Excellent.

I like several songs from those bands a lot.

I never said he wasn't good or didn't deserve to be famous. I respect him. But, I don't think he deserves the GOAT accolades he regularly gets based on any performance of his that I've ever seen or heard.

Certainly not this level of good:
2nd in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"
5th in Time magazine's list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players"
4th in Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time".

I can reel off numerous guitarists I think should knock him way down those lists. That's what makes him "overrated" to me. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah, he's done a lot of good work. Just remember, many of his best-known works involved collaborations with artists I'd rank higher than him, and songs that weren't of his own writing or creation. That's just the truth.

The famed musician and multiple-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee sued a 55-year-old woman from Ratingen, Germany, because she tried to sell a "Live USA" Clapton CD on eBay for 9.95 euros, or approximately $11 U.S.

Gabriele P., as the woman was referred to in court documents, must reportedly pay about $4,000 U.S. in court fees for both herself and Clapton.

The German publication Bild reported that the lawsuit was filed in Düsseldorf Regional Court. The CD reportedly came from the estate of the widow's former husband, who reportedly bought it in a department store in the 1980s for the equivalent of 9.95 euros.
Why would this even be an issue? There's hundreds if not thousands of stores all across the country that buy/sell CDs.

I've seen Clapton play in the 70`s and 80's. I've seen Eddie Van Halen 5 times, Slash with Guns n Rose's twice, Jeff Beck twice, Kenny Wayne Shepard at least a dozen times, Tom Petty twice, once with Clapton as part of the Traveling Wilberys and Billy Gibbons with ZZ Top every decade at least once since the mid 70's.

Every one of them is better than Clapton.

I've seen Clapton several times over the years but one performance was in Pine Bluff.
Muddy Waters was his backup.

Can't really say who was the better musician that night but the music was great and the venue was something to remember.

Glad he is still playing.

I saw Muddy Waters with Dickey Betts play together in Atlanta. Great fun!

Thank you.

I went to a ton of concerts in my day, but sounds like you've seen some great shows. That Traveling Wilberys show had to be cool. Did Clapton replace someone in the band, or was he just an add-on?
