Don't know if any of you folks have looked into this, but Equifax is supposedly in good position to settle this class-action suit where 147 million people had their information exposed by hackers breaching Equifax's mainframe.

You can file a claim on this website if you were one of the 147 million: LINK

Either free credit monitoring or $125 bucks per person that qualifies.

I qualified, but oddly my wife didn't. So I'm waiting for my $125.

My wife qualified but I didn't. We're signing up for the credit monitoring since we don't have one already.

I signed up for identity theft monitoring in Oct, 2017. Seems like I should get more than $125 when it cost $200 a year.

I got a freeze that took years to get off. All three agencies are fricked up. MyFICO is the only true mortgage score and it costs a bit. credit karma is not real scores if you are looking to buy a home.

You don’t get $125 unless you already had credit monitoring services that will continue for the next 6 months. In my case I was in their system from years ago but don’t currently have credit monitoring. So all I got out of it is free credit monitoring.

Credit Karma uses the Transunion and Equifax credit bureaus. Most lending companies and other businesses use Experian. Also, Experian is ALWAYS lower than the other two.

There’s a finite pot of money for the settlement. If you read the fine print, it’s says you can get UP TO $125.

If the amount of claims is high, which it will likely be given all the press it’s getting, you are going to get much less. I’d be shocked if people got $50.

The value of the 4 years of credit monitoring, plus the one bureau credit monitoring for another six years, is worth over $1000.

It was a no brainer for me: take the monitoring.
