Either side talking about limiting executive powers? Shouldn’t we all be?

These executive orders have gotten ridiculous. Seems like it would be wise to limit the power of one man, not expand it.

I agree... can we stop never ending continuing resolutions and pass an actual budget in Congress while we are at it?

This would require that the Congress actually perform its constitutional functions instead of handing all of its power to unelected executive agency bureaucrats. Will never happen

It’s unsettling because of the speed in which it happens. Atleast our legislators move slow ??

It’s pretty clear we have too low of expectations of our elected officials.

They have one job and that is to pass a budget - 1996 was the last one...

1. Election reform
2. Executive actions reform
3. Term limits
4. Cutting off lobbyists
5-999. All the other shite that wastes tax money.

Once they get to Washington they seem to operate in anything other than the top 4.

I have high expectations of them. However, those expectations have never been met by any federal elected official in my voting life.

Congress, as an institution, has become the problem. The Congress has outright refused to perform its work for decades now.

Yeah. I’d propose to make lobbying illegal. It’s the biggest problem.

Now this is a great thread, regardless of who is in office. 30 EOs got us to the end of Jackson's presidency. Now it's a couple days.

I'll add to the list.

They get an E1 enlisted soldier's yearly pay.

No reason you should make over 5 times what a soldier makes when your arse ain't on the line. You're behind a cush desk.

It’s b.s. how they stacked them up on his desk for a photo op. That kind of power could corrupt almost anyone. But he would argue he had to undo the others. So someone had to be an adult and fix it. Any adults in Congress?

Yes

Should have never allowed them to be expanded in the first place, but most here were fine with it happening, then.

Congress needs to step up, but they won't. They have completely abdicated responsibility and do nothing but play to their constituents and shove pork into 1/year, giant omnibus bills and avoid any actual governing where they don't see a good return on the investment.

What we're left with is 2 branches the Executive and Judiciary to run the country which results in "legislating from the bench" and EOs.

The main problem with EOs is that you have 4-8 year swings that I think will become more dramatic going forward. Trump came in and bulldozed all of the Obama EOs then signed a bunch of his own EOs and he's getting the same treatment from Biden. The pendulum could start swinging out of control.

No one seems to understand that you should pass laws/govern assuming that you will eventually be turning over the government to your political opponents.
