Does Dr. Fauci need to stand up there anymore?

All he says is that Americans need to social distance ourselves. Dr. Birx however agrees with that but also is setting deadlines on other tests. Fauci seems like a wimp with no answer.

Something about him I don’t like. He seems very disingenuous, very Blaise attitude like he really could care less. Birx is way better and comes across as someone who cares. I think Fauci is just another swamp creature enjoying his 15 min.

I don’t trust Fauci. Everything is technical, scientific, and hypothetical. This whole situation is like a science project to him. Some of what he says is instructive for hygiene and staying clean, but I worry about the level of influence he has on government policy.

I agree. He even stated that the models are all based off assumptions. I think he should have tunnel vision based off his specialty but he’s one of many advisors that should be in the presidents ear. He shouldn’t be on stage if he is only worried about one variable in this situation.

Just curious. What would a model ever be based on if not assumptions?

Yes...but he worked for so many administrations! He's gotta be the smartest guy anywhere.

I’m just going off how he is coming across. He’s been around for a very long time. I do not think he is a good person to trot out there everyday.

Raw data?

Initial assumptions but then you pivot with new data every day. There hasn’t been much progress in his model in 16 days

Raw data by definition could have no forecasting utility absent some assumption about what would be applied to that data. I suppose I could be wrong. Can you think of an example of a model that doesn't rely on assumptions?

The overall analytical model he's likely using is a SIR model, which is what most epidemiological models use. It is fine. I think you mean he hasn't updated his assumptions (almost certainly not true) or he hasn't used new "real" data as it has become available (definitely not true). Do you have just a problem with his outcomes or are there specifics assumptions in his model that you think are incorrect? If so what assumptions is he wrong about?

From the future?

Obviously models will be adjusted accordingly as more data pours in but all models are based on assumptions

I don't have a medical background, but I know this. If the FDA has approved the use of hydroxychloroquine for use in fighting CV-19, why aren't they already giving almost every CV-19 patient the drug?

Fauci may or may not be okay, but I don't understand his casual attitude towards using hydroxychloroquine.

Apparently after a few weeks he finally figured out the media will quote him out of context, so he tried clarifying himself a bit more yesterday.

He's still a terrible communicator however.
