Kavanaugh was one of the people that got Starr to look at Foster's death in the first place, after there had been at least TWO investigations that ruled a suicide.

IT is inherently impossible to find scotus nominations outside of the beltway. They have to make their name there. That leads to the ability to tie everyone to something questionable that has happened in DC. Had this been brought up from the beginning, my opinion would different. But now, the dems are desperate and I would be very cautious about any accusations moving forward.

From the article
quote:

Thousands of documents from the Starr probe are still secret. Others are redacted. It is impossible to know whether Mr Kavanaugh was linked to any intimidation or obstruction of justice, but there is no doubt in my mind that he failed to protect the rights of his own grand jury witness.

FWIW, I'm all for the FBI reopening the Foster murder investigation

You’re going to need to tell me more here. This is a really nebulous charge.

In a nutshell, the original head of this investigation had uncovered evidence that was pointing towards murder. Starr felt it would take away from the Jones case so he booted the original head and replaced him with Kavanaugh. Some of Kavanaugh's hand-written notes referenced a bullet hole in the back of Foster's neck but the investigation went on under Kavanaugh to declare it was a suicide.

The main brunt of the article is about the first person to reach the scene and how he wasn't interviewed by the FBI until after the reporter did a story on him, but when the FBI did interview him the story they released as supposedly coming from him was not at all what he said.

I've been all in on Kavanaugh but if this is true then he needs to be dropped for someone not so swampy.

I read the article. It makes no case for anything with regards to Kavanaugh.

I had tracked down Mr Knowlton and discovered that the Starr probe had never spoken to him, even though he had been the first person at the Fort Marcy death location and had highly-relevant information.

I showed him his FBI ‘302’ witness statement from the earlier, superficial Fiske probe. He had never seen the words attributed to him before.

Mr Knowlton was stunned. It contradicted his express assertions. He said the FBI had tried repeatedly to badger him into changing his story on key facts. Each time he refused. Now it appeared they had written in what they wanted to hear. He agreed to go public and accused the FBI of falsifying his witness statement. This was to court trouble.

quote:

So here we have the premise that the FBI was working to cover up that Foster was murdered and falsified 302s as part of that.

quote:

Few people are aware that the US federal prosecutor handling the death investigation at the outset, Miquel Rodriguez, had resigned earlier from the Starr investigation after a bitter dispute.

His resignation letter – later leaked – said he was prevented from pursuing investigative leads, that FBI witness statements did not reflect what witnesses had said, that the suicide verdict was premature, and that his grand jury probe was shut down just as he was beginning to uncover evidence. An informed source told me his work had been sabotaged by his own FBI agents.

The nub of the dispute was over compelling evidence of a wound in Foster’s neck, which contradicted the official version that Foster shot himself in the mouth and had essentially been suppressed. The key crime scene photos had vanished and the FBI labs said others were over-exposed and useless.

Mr Rodriguez, by then suspicious, slipped them to the Smithsonian Institution and had them enhanced. One showed a black stippled ring like a gunshot wound in the side of Foster’s neck. This remains secret but I have seen it.

The photo was pivotal. It confirmed what several people who handled the body had originally stated. I interviewed the first rescue worker on the scene and when I asked him about the mouth wound, he grabbed me, and said with frightening intensity: “listen to me buddy, Foster was shot right here,” jabbing his finger into my neck. He said the FBI had pressured him too into changing his story and that official narrative was a pack of lies.

Here we have the original prosecutor's digging into the murder angle and the reporter covering the coverup angle. Much of this should be easy enough to prove/disprove when/if the documents are ever released.

quote:

Mr Kavanaugh’s reaction to the findings of his colleague can be found in the stash of released documents from the Starr inquiry. One says in his hand-written notes: “startling discovery”, “blew up portions of photo – trauma to the neck on rt side”, “appears to be bullet hole”.

He was presented with a long analysis by Rodriguez that ripped apart the earlier Fiske report and called for an open homicide investigation. This had huge implications for the Clinton presidency and caused an internal crisis in the Starr office. A decision was made to shut down that part of probe. Miquel Rodriguez said he was “forced out”. It was the end of the only genuine probe of the Foster death – conducted under oath – that had ever occurred.

Kavanaugh seems to also see evidence of murder. The murder issue is an issue for the Starr investigation so the original prosecutor is ousted.

It was at this point that Kavanaugh was placed over the Foster investigation. That investigation eventually ruled that Foster committed suicide.

IF this is all true then it kills my support for Kavanaugh as it should for anyone that is truly anti-swamp.

It makes the case as the previous poster pointed out that he may be corrupt and willing to lie to advance his own political ambitions.

I too am very suspicious of any Democrat claims. But this is the first allegation against Judge Kavenaugh that has any hope of being objectively investigated.

If there's any truth to this at all, I suspect what is going on is what I stated earlier...that the Dems, having concluded that the Clintons have reached the end of their political shelf life and seeing them as an obstacle to moving further left, are willing to sacrifice them to sink a GOP judge.

Typical Dem utilitarian ethics at work...support what is useful to you until it is no longer useful and then throw it under the bus.

...but we are better than that.

I don't think this is the work of democrats or it would splashed across the front of the Times and the Post.

The author even mentions how Feinstein didn't know the back story of the information the committee had.

If it is true and like Boatshoes I think it would be easy to investigate--look at Rodriguez's letter and the written statement the witness insisted be included as a supplement to Starr report and then determine if they are credible. If so Kavenaugh facilitated an intentional effort to avoid another investigation of Foster's death.
