Doesn’t the UAW have controlling interest in GM?

No. You are thinking of Chrysler before Fiat stepped in and bought it out of bankruptcy.

I have a vague recollection of either W or Barry leaving the inmates in charge of the asylum.

he United Auto Workers’ retiree health care trust unloaded 40 million of its shares in General Motors Co. worth $1.6 billion, a move that risks the trust’s ability to replace retired UAW Vice President Joe Ashton on the automaker’s board of directors. The UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust is still likely GM’s largest stakeholder with a remaining 100.15 million shares. But that might fall below the threshold detailed in the 2009 stockholder’s agreement between GM, the UAW trust and the U.S. Treasury that guarantees the trust representation on the board.

The UAW is the largest share holder but it was only 17.5% in 2009 and it has dropped since then.

No. They're hoping GM stands strong and gets a good agreement as Ford and Fiat will get the same contract.

It's called pattern bargaining.

The union goes after the strongest first and the other fall in line.

This makes me wonder if union officials will try to orchestrate strikes ahead of the 2020 elections to force Trump into a corner. The racist and sexist bullshite was never effective against Trump and Democrats know it won’t work. Union workers were a big part in Trump’s win. They’ll try to drive a wedge between Trump and unions.

That’s exactly what’s happening here. This strike is all about the election. CNN and their ilk will be along shortly to scream about Trump’s failure to intercede and abandonment of Union voters.

Don’t fall for their bullshite.

If our governor wasn't such a fricking shill for the unions, he'd be making a call and offering up some incentives to get a plant in Louisiana.

Haven't you people learned that President Trump is at least 4 moves ahead of the Fake News Network and the failing NYT.

While I agree in principle, it is not necessarily the "strongest". My father used to negotiate with Hoffa (trucking industry) and was able to reach agreements that were used throughout by Hoffa against other carriers. The trucking company was not large but was all union and very profitable at the time.

Wow they really must be fricking their workers over for it to come to this.

From the liberal bible itself.

Juuust a little research saves you a lot of ignorance

quote:

But none of G.M.’s management miscues was so damaging to its long-term fate as the rich pensions and health care that robbed General Motors of its financial flexibility and, ultimately, of its cash. General Motors established its pension in the “treaty of Detroit,” the five-year contract that it signed with the United Automobile Workers in 1950 that also provided health insurance and other benefits for the company’s workers. Walter Reuther, the union’s captain, would have preferred that the government provide pensions and health care to all citizens. He urged the automakers to “go down to Washington and fight with us” for federal benefits.

And

quote:

Then there's average earnings per vehicle: Toyota is expected to come in at $2,726 for its current fiscal year. Ford ($994), Fiat Chrysler ($850) and GM ($654) were all below $1,000 for the 2014 calendar year. Currency, labor rates and legacy costs are all factors in the gap between Detroit automakers and Toyota, according to analysts and industry experts.

It’s also hilarious to see all the vastly pro union libs drive foreign cars because they claim Domestic cars are crap.
