Really.

Try speaking out in public against it, tell me how it goes.

Tell me, how do you normalize the abnormal?

Unorthodox =/= abnormal

Going out and speaking against it in public is being actively intolerant towards it. You most likely think it’s a choice which is your first problem. Live and let live no?

Getting resistance to ideas isn't a bad thing.

People just label things they don't understand because they aren't strong enough in their own beliefs to actively debate it.

Calling all Trump voters racist, for example. Or gay people deviants.

Or fundamentally intelligent enough to.

People like Matthew Shepard would disagree but to each their own

Shepard was killed over drugs, not because he was gay. That was debunked loooong ago.

It wouldn't matter if he was killed over being gay for this arguments sake. It's an outlier.

It's easy to debate against aberrant behavior.

It ceases to be a debate very quickly when you start using logic and reason.

You must abandon both to support normalizing it.

If you’d like to say resistance or ‘push back’ to things is good until a certain point then I’d agree. Was racism good for blacks in the United States? At the end of each spectrum is usually violence, and I think we can both agree that both sides have been there and neither is innocent of going that far. Keeping the debate in moderation is important, and those unable to debate without flying off the handle are useless in a debate hall.

So you think pointing out aberrant behavior is being intolerant.

So it's your position any deviant behavior must be accepted. That's interesting.

I think it's necessary.

The current rage of labeling everything intolerant, deviant or racist based on our own leanings is terrible for society in general because it divides people, not unites.

We've all got ideas that aren't mainstream and it's really ok. We all have a little bigotry, some prejudice in us. It's normal.

Now carrying it to violence is wrong, but so is demonizing people you disagree with. We have totally destroyed civil conversation.

Wires got crossed.

I have no issue people thinking it’s not traditional. I completely understand. I think the issue is treating someone like a second hand citizen for something that I truly think they cannot help. I thought deviant meant a more sinister term, but you may not have meant it that way so I edited. There is nothing wrong with questioning and pushing back against something. And it shouldn’t get you straight labeled anything.

This seems to be the predominant reason today, regardless of status in life. People are bubble dwellers and really don't know much or care much about people who aren't like them. You can be the smartest guy in the world and still be biased as hell.

Again, there's little civil discourse today even in mainstream media. Everything is a caricature.
