For the first time in months, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Saturday showed the aggressive political instincts that his allies have long insisted he would demonstrate in a contest against former President Donald J. Trump.

After headlining two successful political events in Iowa, Mr. DeSantis made an unscheduled stop in Des Moines — a move aimed at highlighting the fact that Mr. Trump had abruptly postponed a planned Saturday evening rally in the area because of reports of possible severe weather.

Mr. Trump’s explanation for postponing the event drew skepticism from local Iowa officials and derision from DeSantis allies about the “beautiful” weather. And Mr. DeSantis — who has avoided direct conflict with Mr. Trump — essentially kicked sand in the former president’s face by coming to an area that Mr. Trump claimed to have been told was too dangerous for him to visit.

But although it rained heavily at points, it was sunny mid-afternoon and no severe weather such as a tornado materialized, which raised questions among Iowans about whether Mr. Trump was concerned he would fail to draw the crowd he had anticipated. The lack of dangerous storms was noted by local activists who want to see the party move on from Mr. Trump.

“We’re all outside on a nice night,” the influential podcast host Steve Deace wrote on Twitter from the scene of Mr. DeSantis’s barbecue victory lap. “Pretty big crowd too. No severe weather in sight. Planes landing and taking off as scheduled.”

Scott Adams said today, at this point, it would be stupid for DeSantis to run. He has no chance.

The DeSantis PR team full tilt trying to criticize Trump on his known strength (large crowds at rally’s)

Ridiculous and reek’s desperation. Ron’s game is not to out Trump Trump. He can’t.

And that’s why he’s getting his arse kicked.

There were 18 tornadoes in Iowa yesterday. Good to see DeSantis and the Lying New York Times teaming up on this lie.

I can't wait for DeSantis to start attacking Trump's record. All Trump has at this point is name recognition, a moderate record and insults.

Inflationary spending
Championing lockdowns
No Wall
Kim Kardashian pardons
First Step Act
Christopher Wray
Goldman Sachs infesting his admin
Terrible NAFTA replacement
Left with troops in Afghanistan
Sides with Disney
etc...

Trump's going to need Democrats to vote in Republican primaries to get him over the finish line.

You guys are attracted to Trump's style. Not his substance. He changes his mind about policy, you move with him. The trolling and insults are exciting and seem like some sort of progress to you.

Actual conservatives hate Trump's style. They voted for him in spite of his personality and personal shortcomings. When he changed his mind on policy, we couldn't move with him.

DeSantis offers an actual conservative resume. One that better aligns with conservatives. The more people realize we're picking between style vs substance. Substance will win.

If it were wrong then some of this might bother Trump supporters

Inflationary spending
Championing lockdowns
No Wall
Kim Kardashian pardons
First Step Act
Christopher Wray
Goldman Sachs infesting his admin
Terrible NAFTA replacement
Left with troops in Afghanistan
Sides with Disney
etc...

But it doesn't bother them. They don't care so there's no need in defending it.
