A friend of mine 's little brother got caught taking down political signs in some subdivision. He was in college and he was with a group of drunk friends. They weren't doing it for political reasons as they were tearing out all signs -- it was just a bunch of drunk college kids doing what drunk college kids do.
In any event, they were all arrested and charged. They all had to pay thousands of dollars to hire attorneys and they wound up pleading No Contest and got suspended sentences. The judge told them that had they been doing it for political reasons, he would have given them jail time.
It also stayed on this kid's record.
