now look what he was responding to: someone saying that most likely never said this ever; much less when Obama pulled out way before they were defeated.

Could the democrats stop the military funding? I thought it was a done deal? Anybody know how?

Nope but I hope it gets cut in half going forward forcing some revaluation of priorities.

Spending what we do in defense to avoid being attacked is akin to placing a "No Giraffes Allowed" sign in your yard in South Louisiana, sure there are no giraffes in your yard now but was it really the sign that did it?

The USA has yet to reap a peace dividend since WW2.

Nearly four times as many Sunni Islamic militants are operating around the world today as on 11 September 2001, despite nearly two decades of US-led campaigns to combat al Qaeda and Isis, a new independent study has concluded.

That amounts to as many as 230,000 Salafi Jihadi fighters in nearly 70 countries, with the largest numbers in Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to the study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington DC think tank LINK

The findings also highlight the continuing potency of the groups’ ideology and social-media branding in raising money and attracting recruits as they pivot from battlefield defeats in strongholds like Iraq and Syria to direct guerrilla-style attacks there and in other hot spots.

and this gem illustrating how little has been accomplished
quote:

. Overall, the report said, the total number of fighters this year — 100,000 to 230,000 — is down about five percent from a peak in 2016, but still far beyond the ranks in 2001 — 37,000 to 66,000.

The countries with the highest number of fighters this year are Syria (43,650 to 70,550), Afghanistan (27,000 to 64,060), Pakistan (17,900 to 39,540), Iraq (10,000 to 15,000), Nigeria (3,450 to 6,900) and Somalia (3,095 to 7,240), the report said. UK new

5% decrease

- only in Trump's world is it now safe to cut-and-run now.

It's alright baby, go on back to believing in opinions on twitter, and a President who's lying like your grand parents... because making you feel better is all they have left. A massive IQ ....(I Quit)... yes indeed! When those we allied with are beginning to make a difference. (see last quote)

This is interesting as many folks who agreed to the increased debt created by this Admin used defense as the reason, primarily the "why do you hate our military" babble.

Trump is the least warmongering president we’ve had in maybe 100 years, with the possible exception of Carter.

Yeah, I'm not one of them nor do I suffer from TDS and give credit where credit is due however Trump lost a lot of my respect the day he signed the omnibus.

Can anyone explain why for example we are still maintaining 50 bases in Germany in 2018?

I posted the details of that bill somewhere in another thread. If Trump pulled out of long time presence areas then I would be concerned. LINK

Shouldn't we be concerned with the money spent blowing leaf blowers on lizards, no?

Then what were you and all other Democrats so upset with bush about? How do you square your argument today with Obama’s decision to cut and run from Iraq?

Things change

We have airbases all over Europe based on a plan for planes that could travel no more than 500 miles, we now bomb the ME round trip from Kansas.

The MIC wants to have its cake and eat it too on borrowed money, this is a far bigger threat to our nation than any foreign power.

Mattis leaving means that Trump is left alone to his worst instincts. Trump has absolutely no knowledge of anything of substance as its relates to defense, our allies, the world etc.
Trump gets his briefings from Hannity and the rest of the morons at Fox. He's fired folks who are smarter, more knowledgable, and better suited to their jobs.
Mattis was the last adult in the room. There is no way to put a positive spin on this.

"I'll have the best people." LMAO.

the new defense nominee is going to be a former Boeing exec.
