I think they want to try to recapture some energy that Barry brought.
Clinton had high up contacts, donors AND a warchest flush with cash and couldn't pull it off. Who on the Dem horizon has even half that right now? I don't see it. Not to mention the DNC has just about zero money. Maybe 7M on hand.

This was the theory long before the metoo campaign took off. Their political doctrine dictates that they can no longer run straight white people.

At some point between now and 2020 they'll float Corey Booker as a Presidential hopeful to see if they can get enough blacks out to vote to give them the edge.

If they put forth a non-white woman, it could backfire.

They can't nominate a white man because the majority of the party base hates white men.

The only 2 exceptions I could see are Bernie and Biden, but their ages may be what prohibits them. I can't see Bernie keeping up a presidential schedule in his 80s.
