Cuba is indeed screwed with no oil or revenues (selling protection) from VZ.
They have a secondary that is much older than the relationship with VZ for oil however in Angola so they are not fully starved of oil/energy.
Thanks to the Lobito Accords Biden signed (right in front of what was Portugal's largest slave trading port by the way) we will have a difficult time blocking that oil which is now their lifeline.
What they were doing in VZ is based on the model of helping the MPLA in Angola during their civil war.
