You shouldn't lump in court costs, restitution for goods purchased, etc. Unless your goal is to stop them from voting?

FIFY

Breaking the law has consequences. Blaming others for your own poor choices is the Dem motto.

Florida constitution was amended to remove this as a consequence, and they had the right to vote from Jan 2019 until this bill was passed.

So why take that right away?

Are you insinuating that most felons are minorities?

How fricking racist of you.

In Florida? 60% of inmates are an ethnic minority. Much of that is due to broken window policing, though.

60%? So you admit you’re a racist.

Many citizens have outstanding fines and fees and can still vote. Why apply a different standard to an ex-con who has fulfilled their prison term?

Citizens of Florida voted to restore them, though.

So now they wanted felons to regain their right to vote before they’ve even completed their sentence? Fines and fees are a part of their sentencing judgement and process.

What if they are unable to pay? Or what if the state has no idea how much money they actually owe?

That makes it a poll tax

Person A: former felon with rich family gets to vote if they pay fines, fees, and restitution for his phone time during prison.

Person B: former felon without rich family has to help support his family and does not get to vote until he pays fines, fees, and restitution for his phone time during prison

You really think it's "just" for it to shakeout like that?
