The comic book industry is still having trouble learning this because so many of the writers and artists are for it that they keep churning out rainbow dreck as their focus even though people keep not buying it because it's not interesting to them.

Yep. They keep trying to force this on comic book fans. Sure, it's popular with the extreme minority of fans who spend all their time on reddit. That doesn't translate to sustainable revenue levels.

There might be a specific issue which sells because of some new "courageous" character, but it quickly dies off because that crowd isn't interested in stories or character arcs, so they don't come back to find out what's going on in the series. They are only interested in the virtue signaling and that's fulfilled by buying only the single issue.

The America Chavez series is a perfect example. The first issue sold just over 33k copies (which isn't stellar, by any means), sales dropped to below 10k per month for following issues with it finally being so bad they dropped the series at issue 12.

That's what the rest of corporate America has come to find out. Once they have signaled their virtue by perusing your business once (maybe), they go back to their usual purchasing habits and it likely will continue to not include that business.

"Michael Sam's jersey is the highest selling jersey in the NFL this week."

I believe I remember this headline.
