They said they hope to shift the conversation away from the national anthem to meaningful change.

quote:

"This attempt to unify only creates more divide. So we'll skip this song and dance, and as a team we'll stay inside,"

We don't need another publicity parade," McCain says. "If you speak up for change, I'll shut up and play."

Adds Roberts: "So if my dad was a soldier but the cops killed my brother, do I stand for one anthem and kneel for the other?"

No. Staying inside is the same as everyone kneeling. At least these days...

Yeah gonna call bullshite they are hiding in the locker room because they would be kneeling if they came out.

You know who would be out on the field with his hand over his heart?

Was your hypothetical brother a dumbass with a record, armed, and resisting arrest? If so, that falls in the “play stupid games” category and most Americans have zero fricks to give in that case.

I'm going to give them the BOD.

Let's break this down. Some players would kneel. Some would not. They all came together and talked.

Maybe questions were asked "why are they booing us" and somebody said "because they find it offensive and even though they may agree that some cops are bad, they don't believe the the USA is so we need to do it another way"

Maybe they had an actual talk because we all know the other teams have.

I can give them credit for this even though I don't agree with everything they may push.

No

Blaming an entire race or profession for all your troubles creates more divide.

I’m going to agree with you. While I believe they should all have enough appreciation for their country to stand, staying in the locker room as a team is the best solution for everyone. It keeps the attention whores from making a scene and reduces pressure for others to fall in line.

I have question about the slogans on the helmets last night. It sounds like they could choose from one of 6 options only. Was it even an option to wear no slogan?

College teams — at least LSU — is t out for the anthem. Maybe pro shouldn't be either?

I don’t really care.

No college teams that I'm aware of are on the field for the national anthem, although I think I saw something about the Big 12 teams possibly being on the field this season for the anthem...obviously because they can't protest it by staying in the locker room as they'd always done before.

I thought they wanted conversation -hypocrites. Instead, they figured out that the best way to avoid accountability is for them to stay in the locker room hiding. When they made that choice, they got booed for their cowardice and lack of patriotism. These guys deserve the scorn.

Players and their union created this problem. The league played along and its been a mess for several season.

I don’t mind them staying in the locker room, hell that was the policy for decades. The less bread and circus we can have around football the better. I love the game and want it back for the real American men in this country, not the nu male sissies who can’t tell the difference between a cover 2 and cover 3

What did your brother do to get killed? What does a cop shooting your brother have to do with the anthem? What if your brother was killed by a black civilian? Do you kneel for the Anthem then too?

The More Sports Board complains that there’s too many political posts there now. Meanwhile, on the PT, there’s 4 threads on the 1st page discussing sports.

Football and other sports are the circuses referred to in that line.
