Everything built after about 1950 was an intentional finger in the eye of the Civil Rights movement. I don't have a lot of reverence for them.
While I don't pretend to know what was in each individual heart, certainly anything built after WWII (when you could fit all the living Confederate veterans in a large conference room) is suspicious AF. This analysis is complicated by the centennial celebrations in the 1960s which coincided with THE PEAK of the civil rights movement.
Regardless, those built around the 50 year (the 1910s) were done with living veterans and many, many children, grandchildren of veterans and those killed in abundance are much more sincere memorials. This was also the final push for "reconciliation" and look no further than the Gettysburg 50th reunion that was generally a pretty touching display of mutual respect between the (very old) survivors of the battle.

Before that, folks were honoring their family members and ancestors.
Although your point should be indisputable, the fact your average skyscreamer is unwilling to even have a conversation about it is very telling. No surprise, though, as "educators" focus only on indoctrination and students are offered no training in critical thinking (they have to get it on their own).

. Since you want to talk about the real motivations, cool. You can stop pretending you pieces of shite want them torn down "because racism" and just admit that it's 100% about using them as a gateway to tearing down the nation.
" Tearing down the nation." That's rich coming from a Neo Confederate.
J.E.B. Stuart statue fell in Richmond yesterday. 4 CSA statues down in Richmond & one to go ( R.E. Lee). Neo Confederates & Confederates lose their capital twice.

Much of it is art that is intended to be provocative, which is exactly what it is doing.
Does that mean we all have license to destroy any art.or structure that we find offensive or does this privilege to deny freedom of expression only extend to certain person's?

You mean after those involved were deceased as a means to remember them?

Or maybe some might've been trying to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the conflict?
My question would be is the reason why the majority of Confederate monuments went up around 40-50 years and 90-100 years after the conflict had ended due to racism or the desire to honor veterans on major anniversaries?
Food for thought.

Humph. I didn't know that.
