To quote Jack Wilson from the movie Shane: "Prove it!"

So I'm getting into dispute with a friend of mine who says that technically these detention centers are concentration camps. And that some 70% of the detainees were aprehended while applying for asylum at the border.
No it's 100%.
America is evil.
Orange Man bad.

The people in the detention centers are seeking asylum.
Seeking asylum is legal.
If they enter the US through a port of entry.
If they enter in groups of dozens and hundreds in the middle of the desert or across the Rio Grande that is illegal.
Regardless of asylum seeking.
The DHS/ICE guy who testified a few weeks ago explained this to AOC and the other clowns. They all appeared to be learning the rules for the first time.
The media, as they always do, try to muddy the waters to confuse people and get useful idiots to buy in.
tldr: the people in the concentration camps are seeking asylum but did not follow the asylum rules, instead they invaded our borders with the assistance of the cartel and uniparty NGOs. If they had waited in Mexico and crossed at the port of entry like every other legal asylum seeker in the history of this country they would not be detained right now.

Asylum should begin and end at the US Embassy of the first country the come to after fleeing their home nation.
No exceptions.
No exceptions.

quote:True. Most are just walking up to a checkpoint and asking for asylum. The vast majority will be denied, after completion of the review. The problem will resolve itself when word trickles out that no one is being awarded asylum.
And that some 70% of the detainees were aprehended while applying for asylum at the border.

They're asking for asylum because they're being coached to ask for asylym by activist lawyers who are providing aid and comfort to those seeking to break our immigration laws. They are accessories to premeditated crime.

I can't find anything to back that up. Has anyone seen this
As soon as you get caught for illegally trying to enter the country, you claim you are seeking asylum. It’s the only concentration camp in the history of mankind where you are allowed to return to your country of legal residence anytime you wish.

Tell him every one of those people enteted the country illegally, and that they should get in line and apply if they want to live here.

Wrong.
quote:
“Out of those 7,000 cases, 90 received final orders of removal in absentia, 90 percent,” McAleenan told Senator Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), referring to the results of a recent DHS pilot program that tracks family units applying for asylum.
“90 percent did not show up?” Graham asked.
^^^^^
This is the problem.

Recently, 90 have been denied in absentia, meaning they just walzted into the country and skipped their court date.
