ignorant church

quote:

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An Indianapolis church is sending a message about the nation’s current immigration crisis.
Christ Church Cathedral put up the display at their lawn on Monument Circle overnight. It shows statues of Mary, Joseph and Jesus in a cage.

These idiots are calling joeseph and mary a migrant family. No you fricking dolts! They were not migrating! They were simply going to another town for the year census, and pay taxes! They werent moving at all.

How can anyone go to this church, and take them seriously?

Serious question- was Egypt already annexed into the Roman Empire by the time they left Bethlehem?

Having read your source, there is no mention of them believing they were migrating. They seem to simply be using the imagery of someone in need of refuge, likely referencing the no rooms at the inn/manger aspect of the story.

Now, reasonable people can certainly disagree about whether religious iconography should be used this way, but I'm not sure if it's fair to attribute arguments to that church that they didn't actually make.

Leftists will use religion anytime it’s to push Marxism, otherwise they spit on Christianity.

Sounds like this touched a nerve. Who cares if they add a modern flourish to an old myth? Does that make them less christian that they dont want to see people suffer needlessly?

The church should pool its resources and open a branch south of the border to be closer to those in need. The pastor and his family could move there to show the empathy these immigrants need.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were traveling, not migrating, right?

Harod did try and kill Jesus, and they did flee...

Whats unclear to me is if Egypt was in fact Roman when they got there or if it was still somewhat independent. If so that would qualify them as migrants.

They were traveling to pay taxes, and come in for a census. My father's side of the family reads the nativity from the bible every year at our family get together.

Looks like the geopolitics at that time are complicated. Per wiki:

"Egypt was a logical place to find refuge, as it was outside the dominions of King Herod, but both Egypt and palestine were part of the Roman Empire, linked by a coastal road known as "the way of the sea",[1] making travel between them easy and relatively safe."

So, maybe similar to someone fleeing Louisiana to Ohio because JBE wants to murder their kid?

And now that I'm writing that, there is already a corollary, kind of: states without the death penalty will sometimes refuse to extradite someone wanted for a capital crime in a death penalty state.
