Any reduction in the trade deficit over the next few years will be due to oil and gas exports as we are becoming an important world wide exporter.

Correct but does that mean we should get raped in other sectors?

Stock market--

Newell Brands says tariffs will cost $100 million this year based on a 10% tariff and much more if the 25% tariff sticks.

Stock is off 12%

IB I still can’t tell if your pro fair trade or not . Can you start a few more threads to make it clear.

I don’t understand why some of you guys hate Trumps trade war . As long as Trump doesn’t back down we will add a lot more jobs . Either China and other countries lower their tariffs are we export more good giving us more jobs . Or the other countries keep their high tariffs and the business come to the US to make products for the US . I don’t understand why democrats want to increase immigration but export jobs. Why do you democrats want everyone to have low paying jobs or no job at all ?

Conclusion: if you buy spot LNG you better be sure that you either have a sufficiently highly priced and performing sink position or the deal is done back to back. But that automatically denies LNG commodity status. And will continue to do so for a little while longer.

One of the main reasons is means of transport.

but won't these tariffs destroy their economy? You've been making 10 threads a day about how import tariffs are always bad. Chinese putting tariffs on our stuff = good for them. US putting tariffs on Chinese stuff = bad for us. I'm pretty sure at this point this guy is chinese

What you really want is some weird "level playing field" that can never be defined
a trade deficit can absolutely be defined. it's crazy how this simple concept is eluding you

You rant about the tariffs being temporary as if that is good then you rant about needing tariffs to because we taking it in the shorts.
what is this rambling nonsense. you don't even understand what people are trying to tell you

you're right. tariffs are step one. get this - you can't get to step two until you take care of step one

China would have to change so many things to create a more level playing field
not our problem. but we can sure as hell make it painful for them until they come around which is precisely the way things are looking right now given the latest economic indicators.

have you studied the problems with china's economy? they are hurting themselves far worse than they are hurting the us. however, thanks to trump's stance, they might start to play ball and everybody wins.

Trump's Chinese tariffs have been basically offset by nothing more than a change in currency value.

Trade deficits are not necessarily bad. In fact, many economists theorize that they are good for the economy.

That's not without tradeoffs, but overall it's a benefit.

quote:

In contrast, in countries where growth is led by demand, like the United States, the trade balance tends to worsen during growth stages of the business cycle. This is because these economies need to import even more goods than usual in order to grow.

tariffs aren't stopping this one bit. china's economic policies are. we are forcing them to change or they are going to suffer. it's their own decision. the us will survive regardless and it looks like we're prospering in the process. if china wants in, all they have to do is get on board

interesting. trump ratchets up the rhetoric. china market stumbles. but it's because of ib's "live and let live" trade policy. checks out.

What a misguided view.

Cheap trade is a net benefit for us.
