Well considering liberals like FT are cheering on Kim Jong un, we have to logically assume you idiots want economic strife too.

Typical Trump cult logic.

So you are the expert on "Trump cult logic"?

Trump starts trade war with China. China adjusts to remove U.S. leverage.

China cannot do shite to replace the U.S. in its trade equation BUT The U.S. can damn sure replace China...

rade war weakens the USA.

Prove it, I can sling shite all day too but it doesn't make it true...

quote:

"why do you liberals relish a weak USA?"

Your Messiah went on a frickin apology tour and your kind praised him for it... I guess it is the girly nature of your frickers that causes you to fear standing up and fighting... Either way, you are pathetic..., especially you...

quote:

Trump is the one doing this.

You damn right he is and it is about time a POTUS stood up and did something for the benefit of this country. You know the one he was elected to represent. This "we are the world" bullshite is beyond old...

It appears that it is no longer just posturing here. China is making moves to decrease our trade leverage on them.

Bro...Do you even know what China's main imports are, and who their largest providers are?

When you read and educate yourself, you'll feel better.

China holds 1.8 trillion of U.S. debt - they could start recalling and that wouldn't be good for us.

They can't do that you fricking idiot.

China bought US Treasuries, which pay a certain amount each year until they reach maturity, and by contract they can't be "called"

Trump didn't start any war with China.

China started this war a long time ago and they have kicked our fricking arse for 20 years. We as a country are finally realizing how awful this has been for us and have decided to return fire.

On Thursday, China’s commerce ministry announced that the country had agreed to lower or cancel existing tariffs, or border taxes, on thousands of goods from India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Laos starting July 1.

CNN article inside the VOX article

quote:

China has identified more than 8,500 goods from the five countries on which it will "reduce or cancel tariffs," China's Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui said on Twitter. They include soybeans, steel, aluminum as well as other agricultural and chemical products, he added.

To give everyone an idea of how much we export to China of these goods in 2017:

Agricultural products = $15.808B
Soybeans = $12.253B
Chemicals = $15.145B
Primary Metal Manufacturing = $2.26B
Iron and Steel Ferroalloy = $372.9M
Steel Products from Purchased Steel = $38.1M
Alumina & Aluminum & Processing = $1.558B

Without knowing the specific commodity beyond the NAICS 3 and 4 digit code, I think it's safe to say the biggest hit products will be in ag and chemicals. If you look at who China is targeting, Ag makes sense. I'm not sure about chemicals.

With that being said, I'm not sure how much of an impact this will really have. Without seeing further details it's difficult to say.

In my opinion, I think China is putting themselves in a predicament. They went after two of our biggest exports to them off the bat, with the other two being ones they likely won't touch (computers/electronics and transportation equipment--mainly commercial planes). I would look at this as though they may have already used all their leverage.

First of, not true. There are quite a few complex reasons on why this is but they far outweigh the scope of this board. I'll give you the simplest.

For every bond sold, someone has to buy it. Just think about it for a second...get back to me with any of your questions.

Do you understand how the balance of payments works? In this scenario, the selling of bonds means that the US removes that liability from their books and the gap between the financial and current accounts shrinks.
