China trademark case sheds light on Beijing's IP protection progress--

This is an interesting read for those curious about IP in China. This is basically Americans going after each other over trademarks filed in China. It involves the "American Club" and the "American Chamber of Commerce in China"(a Chinese organization of American companies).
LINK
There are some things in the article that validate some of the points I have been making that are apparent to objective observers but not to critics here.
The first:
the second
and finally and perhaps most importantly I have been talking about how IP protection will benefit China:
If you are interested in the issue take the time to read the article.
If you just want to insult and downvote start another thread so this one is not just spam of insults and ignorance.

The first:
quote:
Better intellectual property protection for firms from the United States doing business in China has been a key issue in bilateral trade negotiations ever since Bill Clinton was president, and the issue is now at the centre of American demands to end the current trade war.
the second
quote:
Beijing insists that it has taken extensive efforts to address overseas concerns by cracking down on infringements, aiming to strengthen protection for the sake of its own innovation-based development.
The country established specialised intellectual property courts in the largest cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in 2014, and the Supreme High Court started a specialised court in 2019 to hear technically complicated cases.
China’s legislature also passed a new foreign investment law in March which contained special clauses forbidding forced technology transfer and enhancing intellectual property protection.
and finally and perhaps most importantly I have been talking about how IP protection will benefit China:
quote:
“China still needs to catch up in some areas of legislation and enforcement, but overall it’s moving in the direction of improvement,” said Wu Qi, a senior fellow of the Beijing-based think tank, the Pangoal Institution.
“Regardless of US pressure, which may be just a negotiation tactic to maximise its claims, intellectual property protection is a must for domestic innovation.
Otherwise, how could any Chinese enterprise be willing to spend on research and development.”
quote:
Regardless of how the issue plays out in trade war negotiations, Lehman expressed confidence in China’s progress on protecting intellectual property after working in the country for more than two decades.
“China is fixing its intellectual property [issues], not for foreigners, but for themselves,” he said.

Sounds like the Chinese government needs to clamp down on this shite.
Also, I'm not shocked you present this as strictly an American versus American issue.

I down voted after I read this. China is not fixing shite. You are either very gullible, up to your ears in Chinese debt or just dumb.

Here is an interesting read for you. Shockingly, over 60% of counterfeit and otherwise illegal product seized by Customs comes from China. The percentage cited in the story is 66%, with another 14% coming from Hong Kong. That’s 80% if the illegitimate goods coming into the US from China, for anyone counting. 1.5 billion worth of illicit goods seized, and how much gets through?
Keep singing these communist bastard’s praises, IB. Your credibility is pretty much nil anyway.

Point to where I did that.
Your link was correct when it was written in 2011.
The article in the OP outlines several things they have done since then about IP. The entire point of the thread is those changes will be on display in this trial. Are they legit or not?

You need a hype man just running behind you yelling “DAAAMMMNN!” And “Oh shite!” After posting that

Page 5 at the link from Customs says that the seizure of illicit and counterfeit goods increased by 8% for FY 2017, to 1.2 billion dollars worth. I’ll give you 3 guesses as to where no less than 50% of those goods came from. So what was true in 2011, was still true in 2017 at least.
You and I both know, for every legitimate product you can name, I can post a link to a counterfeit Chinese knockoff, so you can stop with the bullshite any time now.

How about give me a link instead of a guess??
You still miss the point.
The OP is about testing new IP protections in China. They may or may not be good.
Also Customs is protecting US companies in the USA not China. The importers are the criminals in those cases. A Chinese company may make troyt37 dolls in China where you have filed a trademark and they will be doing nothing wrong. When Bammer Scammers, Inc of Tuscaloosa imports the troyt37 knock offs they have violated your trademark and you have recourse against Bammer Scammers but the Chinese manufacture did not violate your US trademark because they didn't offer it in commerce in the USA.
