Ok sky is falling Never Trumpers....

Look.. and LEARN!

quote:

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Monday that Beijing wanted trade talks and not a trade war with the U.S. He stressed his country’s willingness to remove barriers to American business and reduce the U.S. trade deficit with China, which is the chief demand from Mr. Trump.

“With regard to trade imbalances, China and the United States should adopt a pragmatic and rational attitude, promote balancing through expansion of trade, and stick to negotiations to resolve differences and friction,” Mr. Li told a conference in Beijing, state radio reported.

Your balls are small and your sack is hairless! If left to you, this nation would have turn socialist 40 years ago.

You mentality is "We can't!"

Can you explain to me why trade deficits, in and of themselves, are a bad thing?

We had trade surpluses all throughout the Great Depression. Didn't seem to help one bit.

This is more than just a trade deficit.

The idea is to have it be a zero sum game every year for a multitude of reasons.

Too big of deficit or surplus is both bad. One reason China is willing to play ball. They need us and we need them to change or it will be a cluaterfrick.

Structural perpetual net deficits extract the wealth of a nation and distribute it internationally

It is a zero sum game. The trade deficit doesn't count capital inflows.

Hence, why I said "in and of themselves". Trade deficits get demonized all the frigging time for some reason. You have a trade deficit w/ your grocer. Are you worse off for it?

We are worse off.

Don’t get fooled or distracted by anything else. This is where the game is being played. We give China access to our markets and in return they restrict our access to their markets. They also do a poor job of protecting the intellectual property rights of American businesses. What Trump wants is a level playing field.

in the case of China, it's bad because us businesses are presented with massive trade barriers to doing business in China while simultaneously being undercut at home due to chinese price manipulation and dumping. The Chinese governments compete control of their economy and their disregard for their own peoples welfare has allowed them to weaponize trade, and we have allowed them to do it so we can but sightly cheaper, poorly made crap

LOL nothing like removing yourself from any further conversation by stating that you know exactly nothing about anything to do with economics.

That's like saying what's the point of having car insurance, because it cannot save your car if it gets totaled.

Most of that "surplus" was steel and iron going to Japan, they sent it back in the form of bombs a few years later.

funny how the whole "negotiating from a position of strength" works out better than "rolling over and spreading your arse cheeks"

Do you think trade deficits crush our manufacturing or hurt our economy? If so, why has our capital stock been on a steady rise for decades?

You're calling me an economic illiterate, yet most economists agree w/ me; Trade deficits, in and of themselves, don't matter.

Again, like I linked above, you aren't looking at the other side of the equation, which is those dollars that inevitably flow back into America.

So what if China is imposing tariffs on us? That hurts THEM more than it hurts us. The one area where things do need to change, though, is on intellectual property theft.

God I love to read the libers and rinos on this topic.

With every step you are being shown how WRONG you are and you still refuse to see it.

Why hasn't our capital stock taken a massive hit as China has grown?
