-Ban Chinese made products
*as in ban further imports after a certain date. No bans on using or selling things already here
-Seize Chinese state owned assets and companies here in US. Auction them off
-Ban immigration from China

Yep, we need to hit them where it hurts the most, in the pocketbook. Quit buying their shite and take back the manufacturing of our critical needs.

And I'm guessing you're posting from an American made device?

The UK got the ball rolling by backing out of high valued tech deals.

Is that supposed to be a “gotcha” comment? You’re one stupid motherfricker. I’d explain why but you’re too eaten up with TDS to understand the explanation

Agreed but we cannot cut our noses off to spite our faces. We are still too dependent upon China for certain industries that we cannot do without. Must back away slowly.

I realize this. Its unfortunate and quite irresponsible that our government has allowed this to happen. My hope is that behind the scenes, we are making preparations to move critical manufacturing here to the states.

There should be a damn international firestorm right now against China. Here in the US, there should be demand for investigations, retribution’s, and compensations from China instead of partisan BS. If this were the US, I have no doubt that world leaders would be clamoring for us to pay them back.

I used this exact phrase when talking to my dad about this earlier. And it sucks because no quick, clear, and satisfying solution is viable due to what you say here:

quote:

We are still too dependent upon China for certain industries that we cannot do without. Must back away slowly.

Add it’s even worse than that. China is just so complexly entangled in most of the world’s economy. Hell, we even depend on them to buy OUR shite. This was a very calculated, very long-play by them, and it’s gonna take a long time to unfrick ourselves. But it’s got to begin now and future administrations and generations are going to have to maintain the resolve.

Realistically, when could that date be? A year from now? 5? 10? 20? Too soon would completely frick—and ruin—a ton of American companies (and jobs) that have already invested so much in China already.

Seize Chinese state owned assets and companies here in US

Wouldn’t they just do the same except include our private ones?

quote:

Ban immigration from China

In theory, I’m all for it.

I just think these things are a lot more complex than we understand. We want our satisfying pound of flesh—and rightfully so—but we have to think through all the potential unintended consequences that may manifest.
