Fox News host Tucker Carlson fired back at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wednesday after a spokesperson for the agency said the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" host's Tuesday night commentary on mask-wearing was "misleading."

During his commentary, Carlson cited a study conducted by 11 medical institutions that analyzed a group of people who tested positive for coronavirus during the month of July. The study found that among those who were infected, more than 70% reported they had "always" worn a mask over the preceding 14 days. Another 14.4% said they had "often" worn a mask.

In a statement issued to Fox News on Wednesday, a CDC spokesperson wrote that "social media postings citing a table in an MMWR published September 11, 2020, suggest that CDC’s face mask guidance is failing to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 because study participants had indicated having worn masks often and still contracted COVID-19.

The statement added, "CDC guidance on masks has clearly stated that wearing a mask is intended to protect other people in case the mask wearer is infected. At no time has CDC guidance suggested that masks were intended to protect the wearers."

But then Tucker reminded them that their Director said that masks might provide more protection for a person than a vaccine would just a month ago.

If you find yourself in a contradiction, check your premises, you will find that one of them is wrong.

True, and the sad thing is, the stuff CDC is putting out, and what Redfield is saying, is misleading and even not fully covering their previous messaging.

All along (well, once they started telling people to wear masks) the trope has been that wearing a mask doesn't protect the wearer from contracting the virus (it can still enter via the mucus membrane of the eyes, and the particles are small enough to get through the fabric of the mask). So the old "your mask protects me from you, and my mask protects you from me."

If that's the case, reporting the % of people who contracted the virus while always or most always wearing a mask doesn't really help, because you would need to be wearing either a mask+eye protection or a face shield, something.

Also, Redfield should have either not said anything, or been a bit more nuanced in his comments that ady. Because he did make it sound like wearing a mask prevents you from catching the virus (which it won't). That's more dangerous than anything they have reeeeeee'd about that Trump said.

All must obey is clearly an erroneous position

This is the most social engineered way to get your populace to start tattling on other people that I can think of. The thought police isn’t one entity, it’s the entire populace, and; even though this might be a suggestion made in good faith; it scares me how quickly people fell into this.

They are constructing scapegoats to absolve government officials of blame.

I did everything I could, but college students didn't wear their masks!

I did everything I could, but Trump supporters didn't wear their masks!

I did everything I could, but the Jews didn't wear their masks!

I did everything I could, but barflies didn't wear their masks!

I did everything I could, but grandchildren didn't wear their masks around Mamaw and Papaw!

At this point, we're approaching 90% of people in every city and state, red or blue, who have been blamed for viral spread by their own government.

I got a call last night from an employee at a convenience store yelling and cussing about the fact that one of my employees went into their store without wearing a mask. (Note: she didn't say anything while he was in there)

She said "I'm so sick of you motherfrickers! I ain't trying to get exposed. I'm reporting this to the governor!"
