While 23 with 14 is obviously not good 26 with 17 is a whole lot different. And remember it only gives judge's discretion. It doesn't make it legal
Besides the less than 10 year rule isn't a new proposal. That's existing law for hetero couples. It just doesn't apply to gay couples because gay sex equals sodomy and sodomy has different rules
That's why all of these stories are silly. All that they are actually asking for is that the current rules for hetero couples apply to gay couples. They're not asking for a new rule

You can write the law anyway you want. No one forced the legislature to write it that way. It’s stupid to write it to allow discretion in a 14 year old and a 23 year old.
Know what’s less than 10 years? 9 years and 364 days. Not just 9 years.

This is a great example of what happens when a story is poorly written
Current law already says the things everybody is griping about in relation to hetero couples. The only proposal in this same rule apply for gay couples
No one was looking to set fire to the building over these rules when they applied to hetero couples

Well that's perfectly good discussion to have. I happen to disagree. But never less if one wants to have a discussion that's the one that have. I'm sure I wouldn't like this politician in general but in this case all he's asking for is that the rule be applied to hetero and gay equally

The law exists as it does because otherwise how exactly would you write it? Should a 26 year old have to register for the rest of their life if their girlfriend is 17 years and 11 months?
I think that idea is crazy

It’s not, idiot.
It’s two years or so in Alabama. 4 in Alaska. 6 or so in Arkansas (it’s a weird law). 2 in Connecticut. 4 in Delaware until 16. 7 in Florida provided the minor is at least 16. I got bored after that.
