Broken windows takes a ton of resources (I.e. BIG GOVERNMENT) but other wise works.

Is taking a walk an indicator of criminality for everyone or just for 'certain' people?

It presupposes that societal disorder is the primary cause for serious crimes. I also think it's used as an excuse for revenue raising amongst police departments, which leads to police practices that focus their resources on more minor, revenue-raising offenses instead of violent crimes.

Well here is a quote about violent crime stats when the policy was implemented.....

quote:

Violent crime declined by more than 56 percent in the City, compared to about 28 percent in the nation as whole. Property crimes tumbled by about 65 percent, but fell only 26 percent nationally.

Its basically the same reality as letting bratty kids get away with anything and everything but smashing expensive things. No different than the well known concept of "Give them an inch and they take a mile". The liberals and bratty children use this to their advantage.

Those aren't criminal offenses.

Thank goodness deblasio reversed a lot of these policies....and new yorkers are leaving the city in droves that would make Australian cattle station graziers proud.

If they actually looked like they were taking a walk
or didn't look "suspicious",No.

If they looked suspicious, wearing a hoodie, or looking
around/behind to see if they were being observed/followed,
then absolutely, Yes

You laugh, but the way a person keeps up his yard says a lot about his/ her personality.
And by the way, I love trimmed hedges!

This actually reminds me of a good illustration.
Let's say a person lives in a nice neighborhood and you pay HOA fees. And in the HOA rules, there are things like; how high your grass can be, fence requirements, no parking on the street rules, etc.
But people start breaking the rules a little at a time and nothing is done about it. Sooner or later, the entire neighborhood is flouting the rules and it looks like a mess.
To me, this is akin to the Broken Window Theory.

When criminals see that small crimes have been committed in a neighborhood it's a signal to them that no one gives a shite so they can go ahead and commit more crime.

It's the crime version of "just the tip".

(Sometimes that's a crime too)
