He required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation after he couldn’t be kept alive through mechanical ventilation. He required high dose vasopressors because his blood pressure was so low his organs were failing.

Its pretty clear that his limb ischemia is the result of the critical interventions necessary to save his life. It goes with the territory.
The virus ultimately resulted in multisystem organ failure. He lost a limb to ECMO and pressors causing limb ischemia. ECMO and pressors that he otherwise would not have been on had it not been for coronavirus.
Your statement is like arguing that the car wreck didn't kill someone, the dashboard did.
