yes, apparently so. I reread the op-ed and that part is not there though I know it was being discussed on several talk shows at the same time so I must have conflated the two.
Doesn't change the fact that this person has admitted to sabotaging the president and is a national security risk

That guy James Risen fought a legal battle with both the Bush and Obama administrations over them trying to subpoena him to testify that a guy on trial was a leak source of his.
The thing is, in the end he never had to give up any sources, and it was the Obama DOJ that relented. The Obama admin and Holder made the call to keep it in the bag, and then Holder formally rewrote their policies on subpoenaing journalists.
In light of this, it seems like even more of a stretch to make a but Obama appeal on this issue.

Risen was overreach and Obama and Holder did the right thing, albeit belatedly, in backing off.
