Key Details from the September 2026 Report

Nonfarm Payroll Employment: Increased by 29,000, falling short of economist expectations and the prior 12-month average of 45,000 jobs per month.

Unemployment Rate: Rose slightly to 4.2% (with 7,109,000 unemployed people).

Labor Force Participation Rate: Inched up to 61.8%.

Revisions: The nonfarm payroll change for July 2026 was revised down by 31,000 (from +21,000 to -10,000), and August 2026 was revised down by 29,000 (from +162,000 to +133,000).

This is where most cuts are. Tech announced 10,799 job cuts in September and 165,925 year to date, representing 29% of all job-cut announcements in 2026—the highest share of any sector

And this is gaining. ISM manufacturing employment rose to 52.7 in September, extending its expansion streak to three consecutive months

Jan Fed Funds has moved sharply from 4.28% on Monday at close to 4.13% today

Apparently the story is Warsh has communicated he won't hike in October right before an election

And the data today actually gives him a bit of cover
