word is that one of the employees has been a frequent flyer to Japan (3 times since January); has been sick & was ordered to go home and get tested for COVID-19 -- this is not public knowledge yet

and now this...

quote:

Hemphill Elementary School will be closed on Wednesday for a “thorough disinfecting of the building" after a rise in cases of flu and strep throat, Birmingham City Schools said Tuesday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the school is closing for crews to conduct a thorough disinfecting of the building,” the school system said. “The school is experiencing a small increase in the number of reported cases of both the flu and strep throat.”

They've been closed here in Williamson County Tennessee for cleaning since last Friday. And next week is spring break, so yay for kids in the house for 2 weeks!

This happens fairly often in schools when there are illnesses like the flu or stomach viruses running rampant. They'll shut down for a few days and disinfect everything.

Yeah, as a parent who works from home, the past week has been pretty difficult, especially the 5AM decision on Tuesday morning.

Any word about tomorrow and Friday? I need this kid at school so I can get some dang work done.

Utter stupidity.

30 minutes after school reopens, every door handle, desk, water fountain, toilet and washrooms will be contaminated by any students that are carrying any disease.

My kids school is filthy. The school system sent out a notice saying our school will continue to be supplied with hand sanitizer and our custodial staff will increase their sanitation efforts.
They supply alcohol-free hand sanitizer and maybe they are spraying disinfectant on top of the dirt and grime because everything that was dirty last month, last week, etc. is still filthy. I really thought they might actually clean the classrooms after the notice. No such luck.

I work in the area as a teacher, and we had the meeting today to discuss a contingency plan. They tried to downplay the possibility of us closing down, but we're now ordered to bring home all technology and essential resources for teaching on a daily basis. We're also required to have multiple online lessons ready to go and should prepare to teach our current units for two weeks online.

My kids have gone to school 3 days total since Feb 20th. We had 4 cases here and they just shut it down. Next week is spring break. Word is they are going to cancel the week after spring break due to travel and start the following week assuming no new uptick.

Crazy shite.

Yep, they did this in Arkansas at a few elementary schools last year.
