or eliminate the income tax completely and use another stable tax

I just don’t think that is feasible here yet

Over 90% of taxpayers in Louisiana pay less than 4% in state income taxes. Plenty of deductions and exemptions are available. My wife and I had household income around $146,000 and we paid less than 2% in LA state income taxes for 2020 tax year.

You say "plenty of deductions and exemptions" I say too many! Just eliminate them and lower the damn rate!

Their state sales tax is already 7%? Isn't La's only 4% and the parishes levy their own?

Respectfully I’d like to see a link for this

So if you make more that $47k annually, you have increased sales taxes and still have to pay income tax?

If you read the article it states the goal is to phase out income tax for everyone over time if it can be proven as sustainable. Those numbers are just the beginning threshold

When they get to zero for everybody it will have a big impact.

The people that it eliminates taxes for initially aren't paying much now.

Good work Mississippi---stay with it till all the state income tax is gone.

Anyone who makes more than $50,000 will see their earnings up that threshold exempted from income tax, Gunn noted.

First $50,000 would be exempt.

Greater New Orleans area already pays around 9.5% in sales taxes. Shows how corrupt and wasteful Louisiana really is to need another 6% of your income. Complete disgrace for what is starting to look like a 3rd World Country infrastructure.

Starting to?

Louisiana has the 2nd highest combined state and local sales taxes in the nation, and has a state income tax, but we want to poke holes in a Mississippi plan that will phase out their income tax?

Man our public education sucks.

Congratulations on turning blue in 20 years Mississippi.

Signed Texas, Tennessee, Washington and Nevada

Tennessee is deep red outside of Nashville and we will see the State of Franklin return before we see Nashville policy dominate the state.

————————-

Tennessee has crazy low property tax, sales tax is at 9.9% and no state income tax while running a budget surplus most years. Tourism is the big revenue generator here. East Tn has the mountains, national forest, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and West Tennessee has Nashville and Memphis. We just started sports book gambling online and in person so that will generate more revenue. It’s quickly becoming a go to state for manufacturing and especially firearms manufacturing (big pro 2A state, like our official state firearm is a Barrett 50 BMG).

The idiocy of this board can be quite remarkable at times.
