The 2020 election is exposing big tech and their plan to fix the election: they're not banning conservatives outright, they're trying to cut off organic reach. Removing Alex Jones from the app store, quarantine for The_donald, and modifying search results on youtube and google - this is all an effort to prevent organic reach for conservative voices.

They know that organic reach is what elected Trump in 2016, and how the memes and such had a big impact.

They want everyone to be funnelled and herded like cattle toward the "correct" news sources and voices and websites, and for there to be no way for people to be able to wander around and find sites/voices that come from the pro-Trump side.

This scares me the most. They can control it all, way better than the talking heads on TV.

ETA: I am in the tech industry.

MSM has been tainted so bad I think they will be stuck with the 30% who they are pandering to.

What will it take to end this? We all have choices of whether or not to use FB/tTweeter/etc.

Lawsuit for discrimination?
Starting a new platform?

This isn't really related to the banning of conservative voices, but you've hit on something big. Their goal isn't just to cut out organic reach for political reasons. It's also to make them money.

As a small business on Instagram, the last two years it becomes increasingly more difficult to get organic reach with consumers and grow a following. It's all an attempt to encourage people to spend money promoting posts. That's their prerogative as a business. However, it just shows you how easy they can manipulate the entire platform to accomplish a goal whether it be making more money or silencing opposition.

US polinerds understand the difference, but when you are trying to explain this to the masses, you end up sounding like a wonk. Bubba in Alabama doesn't know or care about the difference.

That’s the billion dollar question. We’ve allowed them to create the most powerful companies on the planet. And most Americans do not care enough about this stuff to be inconvenienced. Especially when it comes to their mind numbing phone time.

Get Woke, Go Broke

Google/YT, Facebook and, to a lesser degree, Twitter are all at about maximum market saturation right now. All their captive audiences need is a viable alternative and many of them are gone.

I know it probably sounded good in board and marketing meetings to demonize half their customers, but I just wonder if that is a sound, long-term strategy.

What if I told you Trump has the names and telephone numbers of Hundreds of thousands of previously unregistered white working class voters in battleground states? What if I told you new Trump voters were being created everyday that did not previously exist ? What if I told you this effort to locate and create new Trump voters is not exclusively dependent on social media ?

The difference in search results for anything politically related with regards to Duck Duck Go and Google are astounding.
