The sore loser law only applies to the ballot, not write ins.

She needed to change it cause he got the appointment by agreeing to drop the investigation into Gov Bentley. After Bentley stepped down to save a little face, Ivey had to move it up cause it was pretty well known about the shady shite with Luthers appointment

The ballot has been certified and absentee ballots have already been sent, no turning back now.

The sore loser says the loser of a prior primary or runoff can't appear on the general ballot. It doesn't address write in votes.

In order to keep his seat in the Senate, Strange threatens to start a write-in campaign, knowing full well Republicans in Alabama will hold Ivey's feet to the fire if she let's a Democrat take Sessions old seat!

Brilliant!

In this scenario, Strange gets to serve the remainder of Sessions term, all the while preparing for his own run in 2018.

Did events just happen this way? Or have people been manipulating things behind the scenes?

The sore-loser rule would apply if the Republicans tried to remove Moore from the ballot and replace him with someone he already defeated in the primary (Strange, Brooks, Pittman).

A write-in campaign independent of the Republican party would be legal.

Surely at this point, Ivey knows she's done for. Instead of just letting Strange finish out Sessions term, she called a special election because she thought Moore might run for governor.

With today's events, and Strange considering a write-in campaign, she has no choice but to call off the special election; a waste of millions of dollars.
Letting the special election continue would split the Republican vote, giving the Democrats Session's old seat. Alabama Republicans would never forgive her for letting that happen.

Either way, she's done.

She can't call it off, absentee ballots have already been sent. People have already voted in this election.

That must be why he's getting so many of Trump's judicial appointments approved.

So Luther can either run as a write in, which would give the election to Jones, or get Ivey to call off the election and give Luther a few more years...in exchange for?

If that's true, why would Strange consider a write-in campaign? Surely he has to know he can't win. This would appear to be sour grapes on his part; to give Session' s seat to a Democrat for spite? His career would likewise be over.

His career is over now. This is his only shot at reviving it.

Call off an election because the 'wrong' guy is about to win?

WTF country do people think this is?

That's grounds for taking up arms.

The election is not being called off. Votes have already been cast. The governor can't nullify those votes.

A long shot for Strange for sure. I don't think he does it. He would have no shot at winning, and would be vilified by Alabamians for enabling a Democrat to win a Senate seat.
