The link below is an opinion piece but gives a pretty good summary of the Supreme Courts opinion on 2A. In the majority opinion of District of Columbia v. Heller, the Second Amendment was construed to protect the right to arms “in common use” and of the type “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes.” In today’s environment, it would be hard to argue a semi-automatic AR is not “in common use”.
One problem with all that. The Supreme Court has refused to hear cases involving assault weapons, mag bans, special need to carry, and render moot a case that still could haunt gunowners. As of right now, SCOTUS has allowed the lower courts to impose whatever restriction outside of a complete ban. Go look at DC. Only 1 FFl holder and he works in a police station plus you can't own anything other than basic hunting rifles and revolver. License, permit, fees all are permitted.
So before all you guys jump and up and down about Heller, understsnd that until SCOTUS rules on the level of scrutiny that's where we are at.

No, he wants them dependent on government in all aspects of their lives.

Free voter ID is preventing poor people from their right to vote, yet a massive tax on purchasing guns somehow won't prevent poor folks from exercising their right to own a firearm?

Oh oh oh, now tell me what happens when they arbitrarily decide one day to stop offering the tax stamp?
Dont have to ban guns, just make the tax stamp impossible to get. This wouldnt be the first time this method of banning an item has been used.

Think we can have sanctuary cities and states for guns?

Individuals who already own these items would be required to participate in a federal buyback program or register each of their qualifying firearms and magazines under the NFA — which comes with a $200 price tag (on top of extra fees incurred during the registration process).
Nah I'm good. Bearing arms is a constitutional right, and you cannot determine one's ability to exercise a right with a tax or stamp. Biden and company can shove $200 right up their arse.
