To be a successful showman you gotta have a gimmick. Shapiro's gimmick is the same as any politician's "us vs. them" schtick. A Jew telling a far right Christian student body that their religious rights exceed the boundaries of the Constitution is a form of figurative public masturbation that Jim Morrison of The Doors fame would appreciate. Old Jim loved to whip it out on stage. Ben does, too, just figuratively.
