The gun shop probably sold them with the bump fire stock attached.

The two gun shops that have been identified don't sell weapons like that. Try again.

why don't we get serious about talking about mental health.

you know, the root of the problem here.

OK.

What are the issues that you see, and what are some ideas that would solve them?

Access to doctors is where that begins but the GOP wants to limit those with the most needs from seeing the doctors. Probably our best line of defense.

Good Morning, Pollylovespretzels. EthanL started an entire thread on this yesterday. He just knows Trump will ban guns and we will all be safe again and ride unicorns in the woods eating skittles falling from the sky. All while a comedian Jimmy Kimmell, will stop crying on TV.

i don't presume to have the answers, but the problem as i see it is that as we moved away from the old style of just tossing people in the looney bin, most of which were conditions even worse than what you'd find in prison, we shifted to just tossing people in jail and/or letting them rot on the streets rather than come up with a comprehensive strategy on how to help these people deal with their problems.

Funneling money from law enforcement to psychological or psychiatric services is unfortunately a non-starter politically. Also, private prisons stand to lose money when you invest in pre-emptive mental health services for various offenders.

Typical.

I don't presume to be an expert, unlike some of you clowns i'm smart enough to know what i don't know. But it doesn't take a PHD in psychology to see we have a problem with mental health in this country.

or i could just blame guns.

I agree. Bring back the asylum system. Would solve most homelessness and a decent amount of crime.

Wouldn't help here though, apparently. Granted, we are less than 48 hours out, but nothing has popped up showing any signs of mental illness (and, contrary to the opinions of some leftists, gun ownership is not a sign of mental illness).

Then tell us how you would fix the problem with gun restrictions in all your infinite wisdom

you dont think opening fire on hundreds of random people from a hotel window qualifies as a sign of mental illness?

Prior to the shooting, dick.

A little late for an intervention once he's started shooting.

So I guess we can expect Trump to go with gun control, and all of the Trumpkins to say "I'm done", until Bannon comes out with a few platitudes and they all rationalize it together.

I'm involved to an extent on the local level. It's a serious issue, we spend a ton of money on these folks with no good results. We have every type of housing and program you can ask for, except institutionalizing.

Short of locking people up, you cannot force them to continue seeking help and they don't. It's the same people, a revolving door.

Do you even read what you type?

With this thought process we should ban every alcohol because though legal if consumed in a immature manner it may lead to deaths. How about cars, though legal somebody could modify them and use them in such a manner it could lead to deaths.

I didn't say you needed to be an expert. You know enough about it to point out that there are problems. I don't think it's too much to ask you to speak intelligently about some solutions.

Ultimately, this is what you'll likely end up doing anyway.
