Why did Mearsheimer say in 1995 that Ukraine should not give up its nukes because they were a deterrent against Russia aggression?

They have not driven the invaders completely out of their country. By some standards, that would be losing.

There is no way, at this point, to convince people here that believe Russia is a ruthless and vile enemy, that perhaps they, even Putin, "could have" been a valuable ally.

Our propaganda machine is powerful indeed.

Russia being an aggressive, ruthless imperialist nation is its history up through today.

80% were for Maidan, meaning the US had to basically do nothing if that was its goal.

20,000 regular citizens with guns showed up in February to tell Russia, "Not on our watch" So it is Ukraine who didn't cut a deal. Can you guess why Zelensky said send me weapons and not a free ride? Maybe that is above your IQ level. 90% of Ukraine supports driving Russia OUT of all of Ukraine.

FTR, it was Ukraine's leaving the USSR which caused other Soviet states to leave the USSR, like Kazakhstan, Georgia, the Baltic States and more. Several opted to ally with Russia in its version of NATO or the EU, but they some are not contributing in any way shape or form to Russia now. They see how IMPERIALISTIC Russia remains.

Yep, CIA doing work.

good to see you admit that the current war is tied to our involvement in 2014.
