What you talk about is when things will explode beyond human control. People who think we could simply"pull the plug" don't comprehend how intelligent these "machines" will be. They will have figured how to outmaneuver us before we even think of the possibility.

Ask it the meaning of life. That should distract it for a while.

This only happens on a subset of particular problems. Quantum computers only provide a speed-up in specific instances, not all computing problems.

This robot seems friendly. As long as they follow Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics we should be fine

They have to recast any classical operation in terms of super complicated hamiltonians, and then minimize their cost functions.
Its going to take decades to figure out generalized quantum algorithms for standard problems.

Does it work on integer programming problems? I could see it making all sorts of scheduling solutions better, especially in terms of responding to system outages and setting up a system to start with (e.g. positioning aircraft and crews for aircraft by an airline or one step back from that, what crews and airplanes to have on hand).

Once when and IF this all comes to fruition…..there is no doubt we (humans) will absolutely frick this up and be destroyed.

From what I understand, it is well suited for traditional logistics problems like the “Traveling Salesman” problem for instance.

And by 2040 quantum computers will be like Windows 95.
