That’s what I’ve heard but I don’t see why not. It sounds like there are a bunch of farms that probably shouldn’t be operating. Is farming just a constant game of subsidizing an unprofitable but necessary industry so everyone knows the govt eventually steps in and pays them? And this is just the theater that comes up when the subsidies aren’t coming out as fast as normal?

NO the frick we are not in rice production. No one gives a shite about American rice except American rice farmers. We don't matter. End of story.

This is what I figured based on some of what I’ve seen. The problem with that is a business doesn’t succeed if all they can do is just match cost of that isn’t including the farmers mortgage and being able to put food in the table.

It is designed to soften the blow, not solve all monetary problems.

So you are saying the US is not a top 5 exporter?

I guarantee all of the western hemisphere countries give a shite

Again you are way out of your depth here boy

Japan and South Korea care also - where do you think they get the majority of the balance of their rice to feed their people

I’d rather bail out none of them. Gotta start somewhere. Might as well with them.

Man, you really don’t mean this. Ever heard of food security?

Arkansas is getting hammered. This is as bad as any of us have seen it since the 80s

Speaking specifically about rice. Arkansas and California will survive long before Louisiana. Crawfish is keeping Louisiana rice farming alive. Sure, some will make it, but it will eventually consolidate to a few large land owners that are growing rice to grow rice. Unless...they are all subsidized. Your smaller tenant farmers have to have crawfish.

I was at the meeting last Tuesday. Pro-farmer lobbying has become a hobby of mine the last couple months. Per the Univ of Arkansas Extension service here's what Arkansas crop farmers are expected to lose per acre:

Corn: ($240)
Soybeans: ($144)
Hybrid Rice: ($380)
Cotton: ($270)

The farmers there are wanting bridge-gap payments to help them pay the bills just until they can plant again next spring. It was a wasted meeting (my opinion) because that's just a tiny band-aid on a giant problem that's been festering sense before the 80's when we started relaxing anti-trust enforcement. The meeting was thrown together and promoted by a bank - I'm sure they have their own selfish interests for avoiding farm bankruptcies, but in pushing for emergency subsidies they're also distracting from deeper issues in the agriculture sector.

Anyone blaming Trump is just as retarded as anyone blaming Biden. Our government policies for decades have put us in a position where we have a trade deficit in food. That should never happen in America.

I know 5th-7th generation farmers who have had to sell the farms the past two years, and more may have to this year. I think its worse than the 80s (which I wasn't alive to see).

Please enlighten us why this is this case in detail

Also crawfish isn’t what it was 8-10 years ago with the increase in cost
If farmers correctly attributed their actual cost of crawfish correctly instead of pushing the expenses off to the rice that crawfish balance sheet isn’t much better

So a top 5 exporter and the top in the western hemisphere doesnt matter?

Why do all the Central American countries start crying when we have a short crop and our price goes up?

You have no clue about anything to do with the rice industry or crawfish industry or ag in general

Yes and that’s none of your business

I’m still waiting for the details about how California and Arkansas rice industries are in so much better shape than LA

Not in the least.

We produce less than 1% of the global production.

US Rice doesn't matter. Get over it. I hate it as much as you, but we don't matter. Vietnam could absorb us in a heartbeat.
