My main issue was during Covid, when despite continued contributions two of my accts were shedding cash like a German Shepherd sheds hair. Most 401ks outperformed the market, but the market was down 25%
Money goes in, balance goes down.
This one is a major unforced error. Didnt need to be this way. If prolonged, yes everyone will lose.

suppose I own XYZ. I bought it at $100 a share 3 months ago....recent market declines have left it at $80 a share. Suppose on Dec 31st this year, the stock has recovered and is trading at $115 a share (much like 2020) and I cash out. How again did I lose on my rate of return. Are you stupid enough to believe that stocks only go up? I'm being sarcastic because surely you do know that...BUT, one can't tell with you.
