Instead of trying to rewrite the thing? The tax code sucks, but special interests are going to kill this thing, and we will be left with jack shite. Just lower my tax bill and I’ll keep supporting you.

These fools had YEARS to come up with tax reform.

They SUCK arse at passing decent legislation. There is no excuse. If the GOP can't handle tax reform, then why exist?

This is what I don't understand about Washington. You don't need special interests, you should only vote based on your constituents. These "lobbying" groups shouldn't influence your decisions at all.

Because all of the constituents belong to multiple special interests: Homeowners, business owners, blue state tax payers, student loan holders, etc.

The issue is partially one of visibility (and poor math skills). If you eliminate my mortgage interest deduction, I know that is going to hit me. What I don't know is that with all the other changes (brackets, rates, increase in standard deduction) is if I will come out OK. That's hard and complicated. Safer just to oppose the thing I KNOW will get rid of some stuff I like. More human nature than anything nefarious.

To the OP:
They really, really need to reform the corporate tax system. That will move the needle on growth more than an individual cut.

That said, if they fall back to a cut, it will probably be a win (unless just add a bunch more special interest exemptions).

Yeah, it's not like they control both houses of congress or anything.

But when they are giving you $50k for your vote their issues become more important

Yes. As the bill stands I'll probably be paying more.

And they will keep doing so until we get rid of the swamp rats.

The GOP is worse than the democrats. At least the Dems are honest about who they are and what they stand for. I'm done with them.
