Position Description The Government Affairs Section of the Seattle City Attorney's Office is seeking a litigator with an interest in public sector practice to join our team. As an Assistant City Attorney, you will defend lawsuits against the City of Seattle and bring affirmative litigation in practice areas including constitutional, charter, regulatory, ethics, and municipal law litigation and local government litigation work. Additionally, you will be involved in litigation involving the Seattle Police Department, typically defending against § 1983 cases alleging violations of constitutional rights. These claims span from relatively minor matters to intensely litigated cases involving severe injuries, death and/or matters of public importance. Government Affairs litigation matters often attract significant attention from elected officials and media representatives.

Business District Advocates work with neighborhood business districts as a subject matter expert to facilitate community economic development planning and implementation. They develop and recommend strategies related to City investments in business districts that impact the realization of the community goals, the livability of urban districts, and the ability of small businesess to serve communities and create jobs. The work includes attending, presenting at, and facilitating external community and organizational meetings and negotiating and coordinating with different departments and organizations to address community needs. The Business Districts team has a vital role in advising and advocating strategies for the Office of Economic Development, the Mayor's Office, City Council, and other departments.

Seattle is subject to a variety of hazards, severe weather, earthquakes, pandemics, large planned events which pose security concerns, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for developing plans, partnerships, training and exercises to minimize the danger and damage to our community caused by those hazards. OEM does this in partnership with the community, working with residents, community-based organizations, schools, hospitals, faith-based groups, and many others in preparing themselves. OEM partners with other City departments, County, State and Federal governments as well as the community to recover from the aftermath of disasters. The City's emergency management program is intended to improve the City's ability to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and human-caused disasters through the development of a single, common preparedness vision and strategy. The Office of Emergency Management is the coordinating agency to ensure City-wide compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines relating to emergency preparedness including the adoption of the national incident management system.
