Right, but it's such a pain in the arse. If I had to choose between tape and disk to disk backup, it's D2D every time.

Yup, lots of major retail POS systems are running on AS/400 and successor systems, because they are reliable AF and IBM goes to a lot of trouble to ensure that code base keeps working forever.

I learned PASCAL in college, as well... C++ was already getting popular, but our Prof really loved him some PASCAL.
