Does this happen regularly when you live? Does the local media go after the families of local politicians?

At the time I had a VERY strong backer who makes things happen here but life got in the way. After watching our City Council “work”, it’s embarrassing a city as large as ours is run by dumbfricks.

I know a few people who got into politics in local level, and were so pissed at how inept the whole process and other board members were, that they left politics for good.

So did the reality tv star get Mexico to pay for the wall? Certainly states with prestigious public education systems like Louisiana, Arkandas, Mississippi, and Alabama wouldn't be wrong

Did anything positive happen for you because you ran? Don you regret running?

I think it’s really commendable.

I don’t follow
THEY CONTROL THE FED GOV

they will pass laws to ensure no republican is ever elected president again

they will legalize 12M+ illegal aliens

they will add DC and PR as states

they will pack the USSC

they will pass more and more fed laws to overrule any local laws they don't like

It won't make any difference if you get elected to the school board.

it's over.

Yes, but skeletons in the closet. I think I'd be much more useful behind the scenes.

Yes but no more after helping a friend get elected. It’s a thankless job with no power. Local city Facebook groups are filled with busybody Karens who have no problem dragging people through the mud.

What kind of skeletons? Unless you’re a convicted pedophile or rapist, would people really care about the time you drove drunk in high school?

Maybe on the national level one could make that argument, but what about on the local level?

The exact moment I threw up my hands and said "I'm done" happened with local politics. In my area of SC, the most relevant political issues are unrestricted development and flooding. The county I live in was overwhelmingly rural when I was a child, but is now a hotbed of development. The area has had record floods 3 separate times since 2015, which has coincided with the mass construction of new homes.

In a zoning dispute, one of the local developers told our local council that God was the reason for the flooding, not construction and development. Now I'm not one to prohibit someone from doing what they want with their own property, but this degree of demagoguery tells me that most people are too lazy to weigh the pros and cons of specific issues and will believe anything that they believe absolves them of having to make a tough decision.

If you believe the economic growth associated with development overrides the flooding issues, vote for development. If you believe that zoning best protects the property values and quality of life of your citizens, vote for regulation. I just ask for informed decisions based on facts, which today is damn near impossible.

You'd be quite surprised. Yes they do, but even more prevalent is private citizens up-starting some Facebook page or the like that's devoted to bashing a particular candidate for any number of reasons: truths, partial truths, wild exaggerations, complete fabrications....the works.

Local politics/campaigning can and does get viscous.

I’m young enough that I’ve probably posted some stuff on social media that would instantly disqualify me once people dug through it

I'm guessing you're a white progressive, so while your post is likely trying to make fun of Southern rednecks, they aren't the reason why public education in the Deep South is so bad. We both know why but you're probably too self-loathing to acknowledge it.
